Beach Walks, Big Ideas, and the Beauty of Unplanned Moments
Today was a good reminder of how the best days often blend simplicity with substance.
It started and ended with two long beach walks with our Cockerpoo, Isla. The sun was out, the tide was low, and the sky stretched wide and clear. She was in her element, darting along the sand, nose to the ground, ears flying. Watching her enjoy every moment was a joy in itself. Unfortunately, today was the last day before the rules on dogs on the beach change, so she could not now use our local beach until autumn. I find that a real shame. It is incredible how grounding a walk like that can be. No agenda, just movement and fresh air. And it gave me space to reflect.
My highlight of the day, though, was a second meeting with someone I met recently at a networking event, a health professional with a lovely manner and shared values. We had agreed to explore whether there might be a way to collaborate. The conversation was wide-ranging, insightful, and left me with plenty to think about. It is always encouraging when early conversations feel that natural. We may be on to something.
Later, what was meant to be a quiet evening turned into an impromptu catch-up with friends on the return from our dog walk. No planning, they were just there, so we joined them for a quick drink. The kind of evening that flows easily. We covered a lot of ground, everything from what’s next in our lives to dreams we have parked for too long. What was striking was how often alignment came up. Without prompting, we found ourselves talking about how much more important it feels now to live intentionally, to work on things that matter, and to stay connected to who we are and what we want.
Lesson of the Day
Alignment is not always something you plan for. Sometimes it shows up on a dog walk, in a new conversation, or over a quiet drink with old friends. But when it does, you notice and it stays with you.
Please take my free ALIGN Scorecard to understand your alignment better. It is a structured self-assessment across six key pillars of life and leadership. It only takes five minutes to complete, and when you finish, you will be sent a personalised report that sets your baseline alignment.
